"Sawyer WINS Hobby Stock Main Event" Saturday, August 31, 2002
The #98 Hobby Stock driven by Robby Sawyer captured his FIRST MAIN EVENT win Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway. Sawyer started in the 14th position and by lap eight was in seventh place. With
a yellow on lap 12, Robby had worked his way up to fifth place and was catching the leaders. Another yellow flew on the 15th lap and Sawyer had moved into third with five laps remaining in the race. Sawyer and Larry Hood were putting on a side by side show for the fans for 2nd during the last few laps just on the heels of the leader Mike Lee. One of the Johnson's blew a motor in turn 2 and set up a smoke screen during the 17th lap. Hood, Lee and Sawyer racing through the smoke going into turn three saw Sawyer pass Lee as Hood and Sawyer put on a heck of a race until Sawyer was able to use a lap car as a pick to get by Hood at the start finish line on lap 18. Sawyer was able to pull away for his first main event win. Sawyer has the following comments: "I thought I could win a main event this year, I just hope I don't wake up and find it's been a dream. It sure taste good to win."

"Sawyer Takes Seventh Coming from Last Place" Sat., August 24, 2002

Robby Sawyer started in the fourth row Saturday night but was moved to last place after a first lap incident saw a complete restart for the Hobby Stock Main Event. Sawyer was coming out of turn four when on the first lap when Manzella moved up from the infield where she was tring to avoid another car. Sawyer trying to give Manzella room to race moved up and got into Barrett and triggered the first lap incident. Sawyer was sent to the back of the pack and a complete restart was given by the flagman. Later, Sawyer was told he was penalized for the causing the first lap accident. Sawyer began working his way back to the front while Hood, Lee and Puckett battled for the top three positions. Puckett powered his way into the front spot and won with Lee second followed by Hood as Sawyer moved from the back to finish seventh. The hobby stock points battle continues as Puckett (54) moves into first only three points ahead of Manzilla (4x) and Bruce Johnson (20) six points behind Manzilla. Sawyer's seventh place finished moved him into sixth position in the points standings. There are 45 registered members in the Big Time Racing points standings for the Hobby Division. The hobby stocks will resume racing next weekend, August 31, 2002.
"Sawyer Finishes Fourth" Saturday, August 3, 2002
The "White Lightning" hobby stock #98 driven by Robby Sawyer finished fourth place Saturday Night at Bakersfield Speedway. Robby started in the fifth row and on lap three got collected behind the #1 car driven by Frank Ferris, Ferris was pulling back onto the track after spinning coming out of turn two. Nine cars went by Sawyer but he managed to get the #98 car back in the race and began to work his way up the pack of cars. A red flag was thrown on lap six when the #10 car of Sanders flipped his hobby stock on the back stretch. The red flag allowed officials time to check the driver and remove the car from the track. On the restart Sawyer was in the eighth position and running on seven cylinders instead of eight. Sawyer managed to work the traffic and saw the leaders in site when another yellow flag was thrown with three laps to go on lap seventeen. The final three laps saw Brian Puckett#54 and Hood #2 battling for first as Manzella #4 held onto third, Sawyer passed the #32 for fourth position. Puckett survived a brief challenge from Larry Hood and pulled away for his first feature win of the year. Manzilla passed hood on the final lap for second place. In a post race interview Sawyer had the following remarks: "I knew I had lost power-we found it was two bad spark plug wires. Another top five is great, but I want to win, I could see the leaders in sight but did not have the power to catch them. The track was rough tonight-there were some bad ruts in turn three and four-so I tried to miss them to gain on the leaders. A fourth is better than fifth and it's important to finish right now, there is only a few point races left. I would like to thank my dad for setting up this car, it handles great in the corners and I feel the chassis set up has been a big factor of me running up front. I would also like to thank all my sponsors and my crew, especially Kenny for all his help in the pits. We have a lot of work to do on the car this week but the car will be ready for the next race." The hobby stocks will resume racing next Saturday nite August 10.

"Sawyer Takes Another Top Five Finish" Saturday, July 27, 2002
Those familiar with Hobby Stock #98 may have seen a different color Saturday night but ol' 98 proved again it's a top five running competitor as it finished once again in fifth place. Sawyer race fans said good-bye to the Silver Bullet and cheered on the new #98 known as "White Lightning". Sawyer started in the third row of the caution free twenty lap main event. With a caution free main event Sawyer was never given the opportunity to catch the leader as he drove his own race passing cars and handling lap traffic. Bruce Johnson #20 pulled off another win putting him twelve points from catching the Hobby Stock point leader Manzilla. The Hobby Stock class will resume racing next weekend, August 3, 2002.

R
obby Sawyer's Silver Bullet Hobby Stock will be looking for a new name come July 27th race. The Hobby Stock #98 is getting new skin on the car. Crew Chief Kelly is working hard to replace the Silver with White. The top will remain Silver for now, white fenders, doors, quarter panels and new Blue lettering and numbers will give the race car a new appearance. Sawyer racing tradition has been orange and white in the past. One would not be surprised to see some orange turn up sometime in the future. Sawyer racing would like to thank once again Primetime Signs for all their support.

"Sawyer's Top Five Finish A Debate" Saturday, July 6, 2002
Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway Robby Sawyer started in the third row of the twenty-one car field. On lap three Robby was involved in an accident in turn one with Johnson and Wolf while Manzella, Hayder and Pucket tangle bringing out a yellow. Sawyer pits on the yellow to get a tire changed and returns to the track taking the last place position. Working his way through traffic and lapping cars Sawyer moves the "Silver Bullet" into the sixth position. A yellow flag is thrown on lap 15 when second place runner Wood stalled on the track. Sawyer passes Cimental for the fifth position shortly after the green flag is thrown. The Hobby Stock feature is cut short of the normal twenty laps and the checkered flag is thrown on lap 17. Little Larry Hood captures the Main Event Win. Sawyer returns to his pit and is later informed through track gossip that he is going to be penalized two positions for not taking the right position on the restart after the yellow. Although Sawyer has not been formally notified by track officials he plans to debate the restart issue. "I have watched the video, one of my sponsors filmed for me, and I was where I was suppose to be. I plan on showing the video to the appropriate people, I was right where they wanted me to be on the restart, if I was not suppose to be there they should have not started the race until they had all of us drivers lined up, It seems there is some communication problem, said Sawyer. The Silver Bullet ran great, we got our break problem fixed and the car was fast. I had a great starting position, it's too bad I got hit at the beginning of the race, said Sawyer. The hobby stock division will be off for two weeks but will return to Bakersfield Speedway on July 27th.

"Silver Bullet Takes Second Place Finish" Saturday, June 1, 2002
Robby Sawyer finished second place Saturday nite at the Bakersfield Speedway. Robby driving in his Hobby Stock, nicknamed the Silver Bullet, showed the crowd he is no longer a rookie when he used his driving skills to miss a large wreck on the first lap of the main event. The main event for the hobby class was scheduled for 20 laps but turned into a 15 lap race after a pileup of race cars crashed on turn four of the first lap, A red flag was thrown as a result of the crash. After a complete restart Robby took his Silver Bullet to the front and ran in contention for the main event win. Any four of the drivers; Hood, Sanders, Johnson and Sawyer were capable of winning. All four ran bomber to bumper the remainder of the main event. On the final lap, Hood and Johnson got their cars together coming out of turn four. Sanders and Sawyer raced to the finish line finishing in the one and two positions. Sawyer and Sanders pulled their cars before the grandstand crowd for a post race interview. During the interview Robby didn't hesitate to thank all his sponsors as well as his dad for his support. "I want to thank my dad for setting up the car, without his help I would either be in the wall or sitting in the gra
ndstands," said Sawyer. This weekends finish marks Sawyer's best finish of the 2002 season and giving him another top five finish.

"Despite Problems... The Silver Bullet Takes Another Top Five Finish" Saturday, May 4, 2002

Once again Saturday night the Silver Bullet, Hobby Stock #98 took another top five finish. Robby finished fourth in the main event but it wasn't easy. The first indication that something was wrong was when he pulled his car to a stop along the back stretch after a second lap yellow. It seems the steering wheel was not connected correctly which made the positioning of the wheel awkward. When the green flag came out Robby stepped on the gas and realized the car had an exhaust leak. Despite the problems he worked his way through the pack of cars into the fourth position. After taking the checkered flag his car broke a tie-rod that caused him to stop the car between turns one and two. Stuck in the corner with no way to turn his car #98 was a sitting duck with the horsepower of the pack of other cars coming right at him. Once the cars had taken the checkered he jumped out of his car wildly because of being sprayed with hot water, apparently from the radiator. When the tow truck driver pulled up Robby instructed him to take him to the tech pad. What a way to go to the tech pad, "this is a first," said the tow truck driver. "Hey, a top five is a top five and I'll take it anyway I can," said Robby.
