Sawyer Takes Win on Last Lap Move
May 6, 2006

Robby Sawyer did it again. He did it before people could blink an eye. In fact the crowd stood in the grandstands to watch the finish, many with a look of bewilderment, how does this young 21 year old do it they asked? Sawyer is running a car owned by Scott Schweitzer to showcase the GM crate motor. In his known last lap move he took the win only by a few feet in the Super Street Stock main event. After winning his heat race earlier in the evening, Sawyer started tenth in the field. Sawyer worked his way up through the pack of cars quietly and sometimes put the #98 three wide on the track. When a yellow came out with two laps to go he looked as though he was going to have to settle for second place. Then to the crowd's surprise Sawyer took his #98 to the low groove of turns three and four and got underneath the #32 of Nick Sylvister to take the win.
An elated Sawyer jumped to the roof of his car with arms in the air celebrating his victory. It had been a long time since Sawyer has seen Victory Circle or raced dirt on a regular basis. Sawyer competed in 2005 at Irwindale Speedway, his freshmen season was a learning experience going from dirt to pavement.
"It feels good to win ," says Sawyer.
Robby Sawyer will be competing again at Bakersfield Speedway on Memorial Weekend. The race is titled the Victory Circle Western All Stars and is a 100 lapper on Sunday, May 28, 2006.

BAKERSFIELD SPEEDWAY - Season Opener
Running car #98 owned by Schweitzer Construction, Robby Sawyer has returned to the dirt in 2006 and he timed in third quick at 14.961 following Brady Bell in a 14.941 and Mike Corwin's fast time of 14.801. After being off the dirt track since he won the championship and rookie of the year honors in 2004, Sawyer came back with a strong fifth place finish after being sent to the back of the pack with 11 laps to go. Sawyer's return to dirt brought about excitement again in the grandstands as his hard chargin driving style gave the crowd their money's worth.
